Free Crochet Pattern
Here is my second six inch square pattern for the 2015 Mystery Lapghan CAL (#MysteryLapghanCAL2015). If you are just now joining this CAL, no need to worry – we’ve just started, so there is still loads of time to get caught up! Level of Difficulty – Beginner
Yarn – Red Heart Super Saver #4 Worsted Weight
Hook and Notions – Size Hook: I (5.50mm)
Measurement – 6-inches lying flat
Gauge – Not important
Abbreviations
Ch = Chain
Dc = Double Crochet
Rnd = Round
Special Stitches
Herringbone Double Crochet – (Hb dc)
Yarn Over, insert hook into indicated stitch, yarn over draw loop up and through, first loop on hook, (2 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 1 loop on hook, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook. (Hb dc completed)
3 Double Crochet Cluster (3 dc cluster) Stitch also Double Crochet 3 Together Stitch (DC3Tog)
Yarn Over hook insert hook into the indicated stitch. Yarn Over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through the first 2 loops on the hook. Yarn Over insert our hook in same stitch and draw through a loop; you should have 4 loops on your hook. Yarn Over draw through the first 2 loops only and you should have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn Over and insert hook same stitch and draw through that will give you 5 loops on your hook. Yarn Over and draw through the first 2 loops. That will leave you with 4 loops on your hook. Yarn Over and draw through all 4 loops on the hook. Secure the cluster with a chain stitch.
Notes – Color A = Red, B = Green, C = White
Use a slip stitch when attaching your yarn and finishing off
Instructions
Using Yarn A, Chain 4; slip stitch in first chain to join.
Round 1 (Working in the ring): CH 3, 3 dc, * ch 3, 4 dc, * repeat from * to * 2 more times, ch 3; join with a slip stitch in top of the beginning Ch 3. (16dc, 4 x ch 3 sps)
Fasten Off. Attach green in join
Round 2: CH 3, hb-dc in next 3 stitches, * (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in the corner space, hb-dc in next 4 stitches, * repeat from * to * 2 more times, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in the corner space; join with a slip stitch in top of ch 3. (16 hb-dc, 16dc, 4 x ch 3 sps)
Fasten Off. Attach white in corner space
Round 3: CH 3, dc, ch 3, 2dc in corner space, * hb-dc in next 8 stitches, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in corner space, * repeat from * to * 2 more times, hb-dc in next 8stitches; join with a slip stitch in top of ch3 space. (48sts, 4 x ch3 sps)
Fasten Off. Attach red in corner space
Round 4: Ch1 (ch1 does not count), (3dc-cl, ch2, 3dc-cl) in corner space, * ch2, skip 2 stitches, hb-dc in next 8 stitches, ch2, skip 2 stitches; (3dc-cl, ch2, 3dc-cl) in corner * repeat from * to * 2 more times; ch2; skip 2 stitches; hb-dc in next 8 stitches; ch2, skip 2 stitches, slip stitch in top of first 3dc-cl. (32 hb-dc, 8 dc-cl, 12 ch2 sps)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
