Free Crochet Pattern
This Stormy Cowl will be great for the cold weather. The button ends makes for a very versatile accessory. Wear it unbuttoned as a scarf, button and wrapped as a close cowl, or button and hanging as an infinity cowl. Level of Difficulty – Beginner
Yarn – Big Twist Collection Natural Blend Yarn (JoAnn’s) #6 Super Bulky, 80% Acrylic and 20% Wool, 4.2 ozs/82 yds/120 g/74.9 m, used 328 yds Cobblestone Variegated
Hook and Notions :
Size Hook: K/10 ½ (6.5 mm)
3 Cousin Brand Acrylic Beads ¾ inch (needs to button through a chain 2 space of shell)
Sewing needle and matching sewing thread for buttons
Measurement – 11-inches wide (Bottom to shell top) and 60-inches long (before buttoning)
Gauge – 1 pattern and 3 rows = 3 inches
Abbreviations
Ch/chs = chain/chains
Dc = double crochet
Sc = single crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
Sp = space
Notes:
Chain 1 at beginning of rows does not count as a stitch unless otherwise stated.
Chain 2 at beginning of rows counts as 1st hdc unless otherwise stated.
Special Stitches:
Shell – work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in indicated stitch
Half Shell – work 2 dc in indicated stitch
COWL INSTRUCTIONS:
Chain 128
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd chain from hook,
* skip the next 2 chains, work shell in the next chain,
skip the next 2 chains, work a sc in next chain, *
repeat from * to * across. Turn (21 shells, 22 sc)
Row 2: Chain 2 (see pattern notes),
work dc in the same stitch (half shell made),
work a sc in the chain 2 space of next shell,
* work shell in the next sc, work a sc in the chain 2 space of next shell, *
repeat from * to * across to last sc,
work half shell in sc. Turn (20 shells, 2 half shells, 22 sc)
Row 3: Chain 1 (see pattern notes) sc in the same stitch,
* work shell in the next sc,
work sc in the chain 2 space of next the next shell, *
repeat from * to * across to the last half shell,
work sc in last dc. Turn (21 shells, 22 sc)
Row 4 – 13: Repeat Row 2 and 3
Fasten off and weave in ends
With RIGHT side facing you with matching sewing thread sew 3 buttons on left side of cowl evenly spaced (top, middle, and bottom)
