I’m enjoying getting to see the beautiful shawls. Thank you so much for sharing your work! Wow I can’t believe we are almost done with our Winter Wonder Shawl. Today I will go over how to crochet the pocket (totally optional). I personally will not be adding pockets to my shawl. Enjoy!

I used Lion Brand Cupcake #3 in Coffee Break. You may use any size yarn and the recommended hook size. However, depending on the bulkiness of the yarn will depend on how defined your stitches are.
If your yarn suggests using a I hook, then you will also need a J hook. UNLESS you crochet loosely
Chain 1 at beginning of row does not count.
Special Stitches
Shell – work (2dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in indicated stitch
FPdc (Front Post double crochet) – Insert hook into the front of your work, behind the indicated stitch and then through your work such that your hook is now at the front of your work again. Pull through final 2 loops on your hook.
BPdc (Back Post double crochet) – Yarn over on hook, insert hook into hole next to the post of the next stitch, on the “hook side” from back to front, bring the hook back to the back of the fabric around the post, to the hole farther from the hook, yarn over and draw through a loop, bringing it through both sides of the fabric (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops remaining on hook), yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook.

Crochet With Mistie! ~ Part Eight
Instructions
Rows 114-115: Chain 1, hdc in each stitch across. Turn (79 hdc)
Optional: Adding Pockets (Make 2)
Fasten Off. Leaving long enough tail to weave in.
Chain 241, hdc in 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Turn (23 hdc)
Row 1: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch, hdc in each stitch across. Turn (23 hdc)
Row 2: Chain 1, dc in same stitch, dc in next stitch, skip next 2 stitches, *work shell (See Special Stitches) in the next stitch, skip the next 2 stitches, FPdc around the next 2 stitches, skip next 2 stitches,* repeat from *to* across to the last 5 stitches, work shell (See Special Stitches), skip the next 2 stitches, dc in the last 2 stitches. Turn (4 dc, 3 shells, 4 FPdc)
Row 3: Chain 1, dc in same stitch, dc in next stitch, *work shell (See Special Stitches) in chain 1 space of the previous shell, BPdc around the next 2 stitches,* repeat from *to* across to the last shell, work shell in the chain 1 space, dc in the last 2 stitches. Turn (4 dc, 3 shells, 4 BPdc)
Rows 4-12: Repeat Rows 2 and 3
Rows 13-14: Chain 1, hdc in each stitch across. (23 hdc)
Fasten off, leaving long enough tail for sewing onto the shawl.
*I have my pockets facing the same direction as the Part One and Part Seven of the shawl. See Images below.*
Now I have centered the pocket so that there are 3 sets of FPdc on each side of the pocket. Here you will start attaching the pocket on Row 115. Then you will sew the sides of the pocket down on the outer FPdc. Once you have securely attached the pocket fasten off and weave in tails.
Now you will repeat the process on the opposite end of shawl. Here you will start attaching the pocket to Row 2 of the shawl. Again each pocket should face the same direction as your Part One and Part Seven. If you get stuck just give me a holler and I will help you out. 🙂
