Every stitch tells a story — a story of comfort, hope, and love. The 2025 Preemie Crochet Challenge is all about using our craft to wrap the tiniest fighters in warmth. This year, I’m honored to share the Little Luminary Hat, a free crochet pattern designed especially for preemies.
Why “Little Luminary”? Because even the smallest light shines bright. Preemies and their families walk a journey filled with challenges, but handmade stitches remind them that they are not alone. This hat is a way for us, as makers, to send encouragement and a soft touch of care into NICUs everywhere.
💖 A Personal Note
This project is especially close to my heart because my own daughter was a preemie. She was born six weeks early and had to stay in the NICU for a few weeks. It was such a difficult time being separated from her, and I wish I had something like bonding squares back then to help us feel connected. Knowing that these small handmade pieces can provide comfort to other moms and their babies makes this project even more meaningful to me.
That’s why I designed the Little Luminary Hat as part of the 2025 Preemie Crochet Challenge. It represents warmth, hope, and a reminder that even the tiniest light shines bright.
(The matching bonding squares is coming soon — so stay tuned!)

Whether you are crocheting for a NICU, participating in the Preemie Crochet Challenge 2025, or simply making a keepsake for a little one, this hat is designed to be both meaningful and beginner-friendly.

When we come together as makers, we create more than just hats — we create ripples of comfort that reach far beyond our yarn. I hope you’ll join me in making the Little Luminary Hat as part of this year’s Preemie Crochet Challenge.
Because every stitch is a spark. And together, we shine brighter.
