Front Bottom Loop Half Double Crochet
Welcome Everyone! Today we are going to learn how to crochet the Front Bottom Loop Half Double Crochet. This stitch gives somewhat of a braided look and adds texture to your project. It is easy, quick and mindless to work up and as an added bonus this technique works perfectly with most bulky yarn. You can find more of my stitch tutorials and techniques HERE.
Crochet With Mistie! ~ Front Bottom Loop Half Double Crochet
For this stitch technique tutorial I chose to use an I (5.5mm) hook, and J (6mm) hook, 24/7 Cotton. This yarn is a #4 medium weight yarn. It’s another one of my go to yarns when working on stitch tutorials. I also love using it for accessory items.
Using a hook size up from what the pattern or yarn label calls for – I used my J hook

Size Hook: I (5.5mm) & J (6mm), scissors, stitch markers and blunt needle
Abbreviations
Ch/chs = chain/chains
FLMHDC= front loop bottom half double crochet
Stitch Notes
Chain 2 does not count

Stitch Definition
Front Bottom Loop HDC (FBLHDC): Yarn over, insert hook underneath the front bottom loop of the half double crochet from the previous row. Yarn over and pull a loop back through, yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
Front Bottom Loop Half Double Crochet
Chain any number
I chained 20 with J hook (Refer to Notes)
Row 1: hdc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each hdc across. Turn
Row 2: Chain 2, begin in the first stitch of the row by inserting your hook underneath the front bottom loop of the front hdc on the previous row, work one fblhdc (See Stitch Definition) into each stitch across. Turn
Row 3: Repeat Row 2 until your piece is the size you want.
