Concentration required.

Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light
Color – 5 colors – color change indicted in pattern

Hook: 4.00 mm

Size:4 & 1/2 inches

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet

4DC Cluster

BEG CL: Make 3 CH, then yarn over insert hook into the ring;
yarn over over and pull thru;
yarn over and pull thru first 2 loops ( 2 loops left on hook); yarn over hook; insert hook into ring;
yarn over and pull thru;
yarn over and pull thru first 2 loops (3 loops on hook left); yarn over and pull thru all 3 loops.

CL: Work 3DCtog (work 3 double crochet together

COLORS: A – Sunshine (yellow); B – Watermelon (pink); C – Lilac (purple) ; D – Olive (Green); E – Fig (purple); F – Lime (green); G – Rose (pink)

INSTRUCTIONS:

NOTE: This is SQUARE SIX – you need to make 3 for the Groovy Baby Blanket.

With color A

Make a magic ring – (need to learn how to make the magic ring? Click Here!)

RND 1: Work BEG CL into ring; CH 3;
work [ CL; CH 3] into ring x 3
Join with a SL ST into top of BEG CL.
(4 CLUSTERS; 4 x 3 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join color F into any 3 CH space

RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into same 3 CH space; CH 1;
*work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next 2 CH space; CH 1.
Repeat from * 2 more times.
(24 DC; 4 x 1 CH spaces; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join color B into any 2 CH corner space

RND 3: Work [BEG CL; CH 2; CL] into same 2 CH corner space;
CH 1; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space;
*CH 1; work [CL; CH 2; CL] into next 2 CH space;
work 3 DC into next 1 CH space.
Repeat from * 2 more times.
Join with a SL ST into top of BEG CL.
(8 CLUSTERS; 4 x 3 DC groups; 8 x 1 CH spaces; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join color E  into any 2 CH corner space

RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into same 2 CH space;
work 1 FPDC around next CL; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space;
work 1 FPDC around each of next 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space;
work 1 FPDC around next CL;
*work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next 2 CH space;
work 1 FPDC around next CL; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space;
work 1 FPDC around each of next 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space;
work 1 FPDC around next CL.
Repeat from * 2 more times.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

 

Join color G  into any 2 CH corner space

RND 5: CH 3; work a 3 DC Cluster into SAME space; work BPDC around each DC until next 2 CH corner space;
*work 4DC Cluster into 2 CH corner space; work BPDC around each DC until next corner.
Repeat from * 2 more times; SL ST into top of 3DC Cluster.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Final Stitch Count = 17 BPDC on each side PLUS 1 x 4DC Cluster in each corner

 When blocked the Groovy Cluster Granny Square should be approx 4 & 1/2 inches
with DK (no 3) yarn and 4.00 mm hook.
