Free Crochet Pattern

Level of Difficulty – Beginner

Yarn – Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable #4, 2 skeins, Petunia, 3.5 oz/100 g/280 yds/256 m

Hook and Notion – Hook size: J (6.0 mm), scissors and yarn needle

Measurement – 70 inches long and 14 inches wide

Gauge – 1 pattern repeat = 3 inches

Abbreviations

Ch/chs = chain/chains

Dc = double crochet

Sc = single crochet

Sp/sps = space/spaces

St/sts = stitch/stitches

Special Stitches

FHDC – (Foundation Half Double Crochet) Chain 2, yarn over, insert hook into first chain (2^nd from the hook), yarn over, pull up through the first loop on the hook (this is your first chain loop). With 3 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through 3. * Yarn over, insert your hook into the first chain loop, yarn over, pull up a loop (this is your second chain loop), yarn over, pull through 3. 2 fhdc completed. Repeat from * until you reach the desired number of fhdc.

Notes – If you FHDC you do not have to work Row 1.

Chain 3 does count as the first double crochet here and throughout unless otherwise stated.

Instructions

Chain 220 or FHDC 219 (see notes)
Row 1: Sc in the 2^nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Turn (220 sc)
Row 2: Chain 3 (see notes),
dc in the next 3 stitches,
* skip the next 2 stitches, work 5 dc in the next stitch,
chain 2, skip the next 3 stitches,
dc in the next 4 stitches, *
repeat from  * to * across.  Turn (21 fans, 22 groups of 4 dc)
Row 3: Chain 3, dc in the next 3 stitches,
* skip the chain 2 space, work 5 dc in the next dc,
chain 2, skip the next 4 dc,
dc in the next 4 dc, *
repeat from * to * across. Turn (21 fans, 22 groups of 4 dc)
Rows 4-22: Repeat Row 2
Fasten off and weave in ends
