Peaks and Valleys Headband ~

Free Crochet Pattern

The Peaks and Valleys Headband is made using the Chevron design. It will help to keep your hair away from your face as the winds blow through the leaves and across the waters. Make one to match your swim suit and go in style to the pool or beach.

Level of Difficulty – Easy
Yarn – Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver 50 to 75 yds for each headband (small amount of desired color) Examples one made using Gold 2^nd one using Bubble Gum
Hooks and Notions: Hook: I (5.5 mm), scissors, and yarn needle
Measurement – 3-inches tall and 10-inches wide
Gauge – Not important for this project
Abbreviations
BLO = back loop only
Ch = chain
Dec = decrease
Hdc = half double crochet
Sc = single crochet
Special Stitches
Half double crochet decrease (hdc dec or hdc2tog) – decrease over 2 stitches –yarn over insert hook into indicated stirch, draw up loop, pull through (3 loops on hook, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull through (4 loops on hook) yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook: (hdc decrease made)
Notes – Worked in Back Loops Only through out to give each row a ridge effect.
Instructions

Chain 67

Row 1: Sc in 2^nd ch from hook and in each of next 4 chains, work 3 sc in next chain; * sc in each of next 3 chains, skip the next 2 chains, sc in each of next 3 chains, work 3 sc in next chain; repeat from * across to the last 5 chains; ending with a sc in each of the last 5 chains. Turn.
Row 2 (Working in back lps only): Chain 1, hdc decrease over the first 2 stitches, hdc in each of the next 4 stitches, work 3 hdc in next stitch, * hdc in each of the next 3 stitches, skip the next 2 stitches, hdc in each of the next 3 stitches, work 3 hdc in the next stitch, repeat from * across to last 6 stitches; ending with a hdc in each of the next 4 stitches, decrease over the last 2 stitches. Turn.
Rows 3-7: Repeat Row 2
Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew together.  Using the mattress stitch or your favorite stitch sew ends of the rows together matching stitches so that chevrons line up.  Fasten off and weave in ends.
