Dashing Messy Bun Hat

Here is my second messy bun hat as promised. These hats are popular, stylish and keeps your head and ears warm while wearing your hair in an up do. My daughter is crazy about these hats! She loves wearing her hair up and this hat allows her to do just that and keep warm.

Level of Difficulty – Easy
Yarn – Red Heart Soft # 4 Worsted, Wine
Hook and Notions – Size Hook: J (6mm)
Measurement – Hat should fit circumferences of (20″, 22”)
Gauge – 6 stitches over 2 inches = 5 rows
Abbreviations
Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Hb dc = herringbone double crochet
Special Stitch
Herringbone Double Crochet – (Hb dc) – yo, insert hook into indicated stitch, yo draw loop up and through, first loop on hook, (2 loops on hook), yo and draw through 1 loop on hook, yo and draw through both loops on hook. (Hb dc completed)

Band
Round 1: Chain (54, 60), join with a slip stitch to first chain. (54, 60 sts)
Round 2: Chain 1, hdc in first chain, hdc in each chain around; join with a slip stitch to first stitch. (54, 60 sts)
Rounds 3-4: Repeat Round 2
Rounds 5-11: Chain 1, work Hb-dc in same stitch as join, Hb-dc in next stitch, and in each stitch around; join with a slip stitch to first Hb-dc. (54, 60sts)
CIRCUMFERENCE OF 20 INCHES
Round 12: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch as join, hdc in the next 6 stitches, * hdc decrease over the next two stitches, hdc in the next 7 stitches, * repeat from * to * around, ending with hdc decrease in last two stitches; join with a slip stitch to first stitch. (48sts)
Round 13: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch as join, hdc in the next 5 stitches, * hdc decrease over the next two stitches, hdc in the next 6 stitches, * repeat from * to * around, ending with hdc decrease in last two stitches; join with a slip stitch to first stitch. (42sts)
Round 14: Chain 1, hdc in same stitch as join, hdc in the next 4 stitches, * hdc decrease over the next two stitches, hdc in the next 5 stitches, * repeat from * to * around, ending with hdc decrease in last two stitches; join with a slip stitch to first stitch. (36sts)

BEANIE INSTRUCTIONS
FOR 20 INCHES
Work rounds 1 through 14 DO NOT FASTEN OFF
Round 15: Chain 1, sc in same stitch as join and in each stitch around; join with a slip stitch in top of first stitch. DO NOT FASTEN OFF
FOR 22 INCHES
Work rounds 1 through 16 DO NOT FASTEN OFF
Round 17: Chain 1, sc in same stitch as join and in each stitch around; join with a slip stitch in top of first stitch. FASTEN OFF
FINISH OFF
Cut 5 to 6 inch tail. Use your blunt needle to weave in every other stitch at the top making sure to go all the way around. Pull tightly to close the hole. Fasten off and weave in ends.

I am a little nervous about the seam though. (I am working on getting better at)I hope I can do it the right way. Do you have a pic of the seam so that I can compare it to my hat ?
